Here is page three of a three-page camera study by Al Rung entitled "Harrisburg." It was published originally in the December 1949 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 13. Top Left-Hand Photo Caption: "In this track pattern of the PRR's Harrisburg engine terminal, main line is at right, beyond classification tracks; white garage in the foreground is a diesel shop. Several K-4's and T-1's are idle near the roundhouse." Bottom Photo Caption: "Across the Susquehanna from Harrisburg, a pair of GG-1's running M.U. wheel an eastbound freight along a wire-bound path to Jersey City." (Photo taken near Lemoyne, PA.) Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #4831 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are GG-1 (2-C-C-2) electrics rated at 4,620 horsepower each. #4831 was built in Juniata during June of 1935 and retired in July of 1966 after 31 years of faithful service. |
