This was a view looking north from the south end of the Gulf Mobile & Ohio's CANAL YARD in New Orleans. A set of geeps were resting in the REBEL SHED, originally built to house the REBEL streamliner in between runs. Because of the GM&O's track layout in New Orleans, trains entered and left from the yard at this end, while a connection with the Louisville & Nashville was at the other end. The yard was closed on the day of the IC-GM&O merger in 1972. (approximate date) |
