One of the earliest railroads in the Rio Grande Valley was the San Benito Rio Grande Valley RR. It ran from San Benito to Hidalgo then north thru Mission to Monte Cristo to Faysville - Hargill - Raymondville then to Santa Monica to Rio Hondo back to San Benito. It was quite the cicuituous route. MoP became the owner and scaled back these branches. By 1970, the diamond was gone and a spur ran west to some packing sheds. It went under the 77-83 highway. |
