| Kansas City Southern SD50 710 was only one month old when it was photographed on the wye at West Yard, just outside of New Orleans. KCS 704-713 were the first "full-length" units of this model, following N&W 6500-6505 which were built on shorter SD40-2 frames. Notice the forward-facing strobe light, as well as the strobes on the cab roof. Only a dozen KCS units were built with this arrangement of strobes, these SD50's as well as GP40-2's 796 and 797. |
