A pair of E 8s, repainted in the scheme on ELs U34s, which NJDOT used for a few years til NJ Transit took over and implemented the disco scheme, lead a stainless coach that has the sign of a previous era-the PC herald. Four years after Conrail, there were still a lot of cars so adorned. |

PRR 4273, EP-22, 1967 |
Description: |
Mid-Mountain. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train West of Altoona, Pennsylvania, during mid-December of 1967. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #4273 and two other "E" units whose numbers were not recorded. All were built by EMD. #4273 is an EP-22 built in 1952. It has been re-numbered in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger; its original number was "5703." They are pulling a passenger train down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East on a frigid, flurry-filled afternoon. |

PRR 4285, EP-22, 1968 |
Description: |
Oil Power. Here is an original 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in January of 1968. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4285 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #4285 was constructed as number "5885" in March of 1950 and renumbered "4285" in preparation for the PRR-NYC merger. In this context, they're rockin' 'n' rollin' with a 14-car passenger train. |
