Description:  C&NW E8 522 departing Clybourn Avenue station in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in August 1979, Ektachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Number 522 was built in July 1950 as C&NW E8 5021B (c/n 11492), was rebuilt with Cummins diesel generator set for 440VAC auxiliary power for Chicago suburban service in 1959, was renumbered to 522 on December 30, 1974, retired bt tve C&NW and sold to Regional Transportation Authority (RTA), December 31, 1977 and leased back to C&NW for operation, operated as Metropolitan Rail (Metra) 522, retired by Metra April 10, 1989, sold to Kasten Rgilcar Services (Edwardville, Illinois) late 1989, resold to Wisconsin & Southern Railroad becoming 801.

Description:  Taken from L'Enfant Plaza. This Florida-bound train is about 5 min. out of Washington Union Station. It has gone through the First Street Tunnel behind the Capitol for a few city blocks, is now headed west on ex-PRR tracks (with catenary), but is about to turn south again to cross the Potomac River and acquire RF&P tracks. It's 5 days before Amtrak Day and the Champion will be history.
