We've just arrived in Altoona, and the engine and train crews are in the process of changing. Visible in the background are the rooftops of two of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shop buildings.

A more efficient operation today, gross ton miles per freight train hour rose from 37,150 in 1946 to 53,205 in 1955." Shown here at the Paoli Station (R to L) are PRR engines #5793 and another E-8 whose number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD. #5793 is an EP-22 built in May of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Also visible in the distance is PAOLI Tower.

Description:  Tipton. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Tipton, Pennsylvania, on 05 January 1964. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5793, an unidentified E-8 unit, and #5881. All were built by EMD. #5793 is an EP-22 built in June of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5881 is an EP-20 built in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They have just recently departed the Altoona Station with an 18-car passenger train, and are now heading to Harrisburg and points East.

Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5794 and another E-8 whose number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5794 was built in June of 1952. Note that both locomotives are still sporting their original DGLE livery! ("Tchowee"; #20 of 29)

Here is an original photo that I took during a trip on Pennsylvania Railroad passenger trains from Wilmington to Altoona on 03 July 1964.= Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #5838, #5850-B, and #5794. All were built by EMD. #5838 is an EP-22 built in 1951 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5850-B is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. #5794 is an EP-22 built in 1952=and rated at 2,250 horsepower. With four cars already coupled on, they are waiting to couple onto a 16-car passenger train heading to Altoona, Pittsburgh, and points West.
